Who I am is shaped by nurture, or everything that has happened to me and the people I have encountered, and nature, or how I am naturally. The daycare I went to almost every day of my life from a couple months old to elementary age has helped in the molding of who I am. I do not remember any specific events in the day care that shaped my goals, but I know that the lady who ran the place, Jane, had a part in raising me. Jane was even my preschool teacher. My classes and the teachers who taught them also had a part in shaping who I am. When I was younger I liked to play make believe. I used to pretend I was a teacher, but that dream was changed when I realized I hated public speaking, even in front of little children. Through an informational about engineering at a career fair in eighth grade, one of my aspirations became studying to be an engineer. I was raised in a Christian caring home and accepted Christ as a young child. Because of this, a major part of who I am is my faith. It is the foundation of my aspirations and dreams. I want what God wants for me. Through some of my activities this year like Student Leading at Student Life Camp and co-leading the Senior High Youth Group Retreats, has shown me that I have administrative leading skills.
By nature I am someone who is very much like her parents. I have a mixture of their personality. One of the qualities I have that both of my parents share is their intelligence. They both did very well in school and are still smart, even if they are humble about it. Procrastination is another trait given to me by my parents. I also, have their introverted personality; we do not need to be surrounded by millions of people, we are happy alone. My outward appearance is almost parallel to my mom’s; we both have a similar facial structure, with brown eyes and brown hair. My excellence in school comes from my mom who excels at math an science. My love of math is going to give me the same career as my mom’s; which is engineering. The fact that my nose is always in a book has also come from my mom. My interest in art comes from my father, though unfortunately he did not give me his talent. I luckily skipped out on my mother’s stubbornness and received my dad’s easy going nature. I even received my dad’s sarcastic attitude. The laziness attitude came from my mother. There are many more reasons why I am like my parents. There are qualities I am glad to have and some not so much, but I am glad to know that I am like my parents. Both the nurture and nature has formed who I am today and what I want from life.
